"It will not be sad when I die" declared Jack Cummins Ramsay only days before his death on August 31, 2009 (the 58th Anniversary of his marriage to Karin Kinsey). "Your tears will be for yourself, not for me."

Born in Norfolk, Va  Nov. 27, 1922 to a Virginian mother and native Texan father, Jack Ramsay, became an officially adopted Texan when, at nine months of age, his father planted his feet on Texas soil and declared him so. He moved with his family to Laredo and later solidified his Texan heritage when he married Karin Kinsey, a 7th generation Texan.

Jack, Karin and their adopted dog, Chalena Chihuahua Ramsay,  lived in Corinth / Denton, Texas after Jack retired.  Though totally blind he wrote, mostly on subjects that involved historical research for which he received his PhD degree from the University of Edinburgh, Scotland. He attended The University of Texas and graduated from Davidson College (NC) and Union Seminary (VA). He is an ordained Presbyterian U.S.A. minister.  He had 7 books published and, with his wife's help and the wonders of modern technology (a computer that read what he wrote back to him), has finished his part on a new book about Civil War Photographer George S. Cook, utilizing pictures, recipe books and more from Cook’s personal diary.  (Proposed Title: Two Photographers Named Cook: Single Parenting 1840-1910).

Jack Ramsay, fell July 1, 2008 and spent July in the hospital for hip surgery and double pneumonia, which followed the surgery. One mid-afternoon while in the hospital, he awoke from delirium and said, "I was dying and that was all right. However, wonderful things are happening and I have decided to give life one more try. Can you put up with me for four to six more years?"

The following morning his doctor studied his charts, came into Jack's room and found Jack alert. The doctor then looked at Jack and said, "You have been at the Door of Death. Now you are Jumping Jack. I have no objection to miracles except that not many people get one. Congratulations!"

Jack, though he awoke many mornings since August full of ideas of history to write, did not get his "six more years" though he continued writing history almost to the end despite having been suddenly totally blinded Dec. 7, 2005.   He did complete manuscripts for three books, which Karin promises "will be published".

Wife Karin with Jack's adoring Chalena Chihuahua survive. Their two children both live in the area: Daughter Annetta and Randy Hunt, their two sons, Ian & Camden Hunt; Son Robin Andrew & Kathy Ramsay, their daughter Jena Ramsay, and son Jared & Amber Ramsay, parents to Jack's Great Grandson, Gavin Andrew Ramsay born Aug. 5, 2009.
