In 1946 Jack Ramsay visited one of those heroic RAF cadets in London:
"I disembarked at South Hampton and took the train to London. During WWII a British Cadet stationed by Britain’s Royal Air Force at Avenger Field, only eight miles from Sweetwater where choice cadets could safely finish their training during days when Hitler was bombing England, had become a special friend of the Kinsey’s and was a frequent guest in their home. He had a sister, Pearl, slightly older than Karin, and the two became special friends, sharing letters and packages/parcels through the years though they had never seen each other in person. Karin had written her World War II pen pal, Pearl Maunder, and alerted her to my arrival. Pearl, nearly 50 years later, confessed to Karin that she did not want to do anything as improper as entertaining a male guest in her home nor did she want to jeopardize her relationship with the person in whom she was interested, now away and studying in United States, so she enlisted her brother to help entertain me. Pearl’s brother, Geoffrey, the brother who was “a favorite British Cadet” of the Kinsey’s, took me on the grand tour of the London area. He explained the intricacies of British currency to me and gave me a crash course in understanding the peculiarities of the language spoken in Great Britain. Pearl and Geoffrey could not do enough to help me. Before they let the wandering student board the train north to Edinburgh, they had done everything possible to make me feel at home in a strange new land.”

And later .. much later .. Karin and Jack visited Karin's "Pen Pal", Geoffrey Carey's sister, in London:

“In the same year …. We flew from DFW airport to London. Karin met her World War II pen pal, Pearl Maunder. For years Karin had corresponded with her but had never met her face to face. Pearl had helped me adjust to British life when I was a student … Karin and I were given magnificent tours of London and Oxford by Pearl and her University Regent husband. After an overnight visit with the Maunders in their spacious cottage on the Thames, we took the train north.” - Angel Kisses, page 200.

The continuing friendship of Karin and Pearl has lasted since WW II until this date:

When Jack and Karin lived in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, Pearl and her husband were their guests.  Correspondence and occasional telephone calls keep the friendship vibrant. Her brother is Geoffrey Carey in the below exercpts.

From a letter written 15/8/05:

“Dear Karin,

I have just had a few nights with Geoff and he gave me the enclosed, which I thought would interest you. He never talked of his war years but after this memorial he was telling me, for the first time, of the kind of hell he endured. Most of his air crew have died now & he was the only one fit to travel. He was given money especially to make the trip. ….Pearl."
