Avenger Field Sweetwater, Texas
Information found in Angel Kisses And My Beating Heart My Life And Near Death Experiences by Jack C. Ramsay, Jr.
"..... Avenger Field (Sweetwater, Texas) housed three unique groups who underwent training during World War II: the U. S. Army Air Corp trainees (one with his new bride rented the Kinsey’s guest bedroom [the author’s wife’s childhood home], sharing the upstairs bathroom and limited kitchen privileges with the Kinseys), elite British Royal Air Force cadets who were sent by Britain to complete their pilot training away from the terror of Hitler’s bombing, and a group of women trainees who would be known as America’s first female military aviators called WASP (Women’s Air Service Pilots known for flying practice targets for the Airmen). …. “The Kinsey family took special interest in the young men and women who underwent training at the nearby field. Holidays at the Kinsey’s always included guests from Avenger Field. Kirby would go out the morning of the holiday to find any willing guests while Ina prepared the holiday meal. Often while they were preparing to accept his invitation he would rush to the print shop and print a box of stationary with the name of each guest as an added gift. Young British cadet pilots who were far from their homes in a strange, new land were invited into the Kinsey home, often in groups of three or four. The family’s meager gasoline allotment was used to take some favorite guests on trips into the nearby countryside and even included trips the Kinseys found necessary to make when Ina’s mother (my wife’s mother) was critically ill in Zephyr (Texas). Geoffrey became a favorite. When he learned that Karin (my wife) was near the same age as his younger sister, Pearl, he helped set up a pen pal correspondence between the two. This was a relationship that would last a lifetime.”- Angel Kisses, pages 20-21.
