Harry and his loving wife Virginia.

Harry and H. Ross Perot |
Harry A. Thompson, born May 5, 1914, spent over 50 years writing Patton’s Ill-Fated Raid. He tells his story as a person caught in the pages of history: in the draft during WWII, in the first battles of the Battle of the Bulge, in the POW camps of Germany including Hammelburg where he was a POW in the same camp as General George S. Patton’s son-in-law. Though his experiences seemed to him “in the wrong places at the wrong time” they shaped his life and made him who he is: an American citizen proud to have served in the 99th Infantry Division of “Battle Babies”.
Harry and Virginia married the day before he left for overseas and shared fifty-eight years together. Harry lives in Wolfe City, Texas near their only child, a daughter, and their three daughters. He is a frequent speaker to groups of all ages interested in the history of World War II.
